This morning as I was watering my plant at work, I noticed how much it has grown since working in a new environment. What started off as a few leaves here and there, has now turned into multiple vines sporadically sprouting out. Each week it seems it continues to grow and well, THRIVE! Today, it finally hit me; it is able to thrive because it is in a new environment. My previous work environment often felt toxic. The new work environment feels more peaceful and conducive to the workplace atmosphere I can thrive in myself. I realized how important it is to be in an environment that is conducive to your growth. Thriving is inevitable if you are in the right place, surrounded by the right people.
Have you ever felt like you were growing through so many challenges in life that it seemed life was piling dirt on top of you? That's how I felt earlier this year. While I have had some unfortunate experiences and have been in some toxic environments and situations where I felt dirt was being thrown on me, I also learned those were the times I was being planted. Much like my plant, the seeds germinated in the dark; even in that previous toxic environment. It was necessary for its process of growth. We as humans are the same. It is necessary to have those dark, uncomfortable and sometimes painful moments in life. Those are the moments where we are being planted. Those are the moments when some of our greatest lessons are being birthed within us. Those are the moments where we can point back to and say, "because of that experience, I have evolved into the person I am today."
I used to despise the dark, lonely and uncomfortable times of life. I felt it was unfair to experience heartache, pain, betrayal, and disappointment. Yet, I now see, I was merely being planted during those seasons in my life. The people who were in my past were just variables to a bigger picture. Once I learned to stop focusing on what others did and began to focus my attention on the lessons I was meant to learn, healing and growth rapidly occurred. As I shifted and began to surround myself with genuine people and was in healthier and more productive environments, I began to thrive!
So you see, each season of our lives are necessary. Although the planting season often feels unbearable, looks dark and seems like nothing is happening, I encourage you to trust that beneath the surface your own seeds of growth and evolution are being germinated. In due season, you will find yourself in a new environment where you are able to thrive. Just continue to water your inner self with love, grace, compassion, and the solitude needed so that when it's your season to thrive, it will be an effortless process for you! You will find yourself growing in ways you never thought imaginable. The external fruit you are seeking can only thrive and survive in certain environments. It is necessary at times to remain hidden during the germination (or growth) phase. Be encouraged and know that this too shall pass and in due season, you will reap the harvest that you have been diligently sowing toward. Eventually, you will bloom where you were planted.
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin” (Zech. 4:10, NLT).
